This cache is one of five hidden for the 2021 Boy Scouts of America’s Theodore Roosevelt Council, Rough Rider District Trek-o-Ree. This annual event (except 2020) has Scouts (boys and girls ages 11-18) hiking from Trail View State Park via Stillwell Woods Park to the West Hills County Park camping area. The Trek-O-Ree is a gentle introduction to backpacking – the trail is approximately 7 miles of almost level terrain, with several road crossings. The focus of the Trek-O-Ree is backpacking skills training and awareness. The plan for the 2021 trek is to demonstrate and teach the scouts basic water purification techniques, crew/patrol tarp setup, and basic map and compass skills including pacing. Scouts will also have the opportunity to complete an orienteering course and locate geocaches within the park. The participants sleep in tents, use the “one pot cooking” method and wash and sterilize all cooking equipment in their campsites.

Huge thanks to RootsSearcher and Clammybird for all their hiding help.
