Bronte Trail Series: Alice McClorys Cottage
Patrick Bronte, father of the Bronte Sisters, was born into a local farming family in 1777. He Spent his early life in this area before moving to England to further his education.
This cottage was the childhood home of Patrick's mother, Alice McClory. Alice's brother Paddy used to transport lime by cart to kilns at Mount Pleasant near Dundalk, He became friends with Hugh Brunty, who worked there at the time. Paddy invited Hugh to meet his family and he fell in love with Alice. The couple later married at Magherally Church.
You can can easily follow the story of Patrick Bronte and his family through the buildings that survived within the Bronte Homeland. The Bronte Homeland Drive starts at Drumballyroney Church and School and is well sign-posted along a 7.3 mile route.
