Bronte Trail Series: Patrick's Birthplace
Patrick Brunty, father of the famous Bronte sisters, was born here in 1777. Little remins of the family's two-roomed, white-washed, thatched cottage. Patrick spent his early days in and around this area.
He worked as a linean weaver and a teacher before moving to England to further his education. It was then he changed his name to Bronte. He settled in Haworth, Yorkshire and the family home is now a museum. This cottage has been in the care of the Bronte Homeland Trust since 1956.
You can easily follow the story of Patrick Bronte and his family through the buildings that survive within the Bronte Homeland. The Bronte Homeland Drive Starts at Drumballyroney Church and School and is well sign-posted along a 7.3 mile route.
