Tioga is the Iroquois Indian Name for Peaceful Valley, descriptive of this It was organized in 1902 when homesteaders from Tioga County, New York settled here, giving it the name Tioga. At the time oil was discovered in 1951 it had a population of 500 and by 1959 Tioga had a population of 2,700. Today our population is estimated to be around 3,000.
