Slaughter Canyon Series #1
Slaughter Canyon was named for Fenton Mercer Slaughter (1826-1897), an American politician and businessman.
Slaughter was born Jan 10, 1826, in Virginia, and moved with his family to Missouri in 1835.
After serving an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, Slaughter was employed as an engineer on steamboats between St. Louis and New Orleans.
In 1846, Slaughter volunteered to serve in the Mexican–American War. During his service, he was captured and held prisoner for 23 days. He escaped by riding 125 miles to Albuquerque on a mule. Three years later, he traveled to California.

The posted coordinates will take you about 20 yards off the trail. As you walk, look down for a relic from the past. (I wanted to put the cache there, but I noticed significant bee activity, so if you decide to explore, beware.) No need to go down unless you want to the cache is not there.
You're looking for a plastic ammo can. Please leave the hook attached to the host and just unhook the handle of the ammo can. There’s room for small swag (take one / leave one) and trackables, but please no food / smellables or advertisements. If you don't have a pen, post a pic of the log (without spoilers of the cache itself). Online log entries without a corresponding signature in the logbook may be deleted.
As always in wild areas, look before you step or reach to avoid critters and poisonous plants.
