Geocache Description:

As I was searching for places to hide geocaches, I came across some places in the area which I had driven by many times but hadn't stopped to appreciate.  One of those locations included a large signpost highlighting some local history.  The posted coordinates will lead you to this sign along a public sidewalk:  Richard A. Hudlin (1898-1976) and Arthur R. Ashe, Jr. (1943-1993) and the Bennett Avenue Historic District.  By perusing the information on this sign, you will find the answers you need to calculate the final coordinates of this geocache.  While reading this sign, look up over the fence and you will see where the tennis court used to stand.

Assume  N 38 AB.CDE  W 090 FG.HIJ

A – Using the last digit of the year, when did Arthur Ashe pass away?

B – “_______ is not a destination…”  How many letters are in the first word of this quote by Arthur Ashe?

C – Using the first digit, at what age did Arthur Ashe pass away?

D – Arthur Ashe graduated first in his class at Sumner High School.  Add together the last two digits of the year he graduated.

E – Using the last digit of the year, when was Richard Hudlin inducted into the St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame?

F – Arthur Ashe was an author.  Subtract the number of books he published from the last digit of the year they were published.

G – Richard Hudlin was a talented tennis player as well as a teacher.  Add together the digits of the number of years he taught and coached at Sumner High School.

H – Richard Hudlin coached Althea Gibson, the first African-American to win a grand slam at the French Open.  Using the last digit of the year, when did this young lady have her first win at Wimbledon?

I – Richard Hudlin was the first black captain at the University of Chicago tennis team.  Using the last digit of the year, when did this occur?

J – Using the last digit of the year, when was Arthur Ashe the national tennis champion in South Africa?

Please note that the final location is in a neighborhood and therefore the geocache is not available 24/7.  Please be respectful of the area and limit your geocaching here to daylight hours only.  Legal street parking is available both at the posted coordinates and at the final location.  Please obey all traffic signs and painted curbs.  Thank you for taking the time to read this plaque and for visiting my geocache.
