Hello! JinxieVooDoll here and I just wanted to personally THANK YOU for wanting to and finding my VERY FIRST GEOCACHE HIDE! So, with that being said...
Welcome to the King Hill Cemetery
As a Southend native, a mega horror fanatic and Voodoo practioner, I know and have a deep love for cemeteries. *(Please don't worry or judge, I promise I'm not evil and neither is the Voodoo religion. Lol. It's just very misunderstood and I highly recommend anyone interested to learn about it because it is fascinating!)*
Anyways. Lol. I actually came to this cemetery for the first time about 4 years ago. Sadly, it was not at all what expected. For those of you who do not know about the King Hill Cemetery, what was once a beautiful and very old cemetery placed in Saint Joseph was vandalized leaving majority of it in complete disarray.
From what my mother has told me, it first got vandalized back when she was in her 20s, I'm sure that it has continued over the years due to the non existence of any type of security for it. Being in the middle of no where and seemingly not owned or cared for by anyone in particular makes this an easy target.
I was so heart broken when I walked through the first time. Infant headstones broken in half. WWII Veterans memorial head stones thrown everywhere. Barely legible markers where someone believed someone is buried.. Whole family plots destroyed and thrown into the surrounding back woods. It made me so angry that not only people that evil existed among us but that absolutely no one has made an effort to have enough respect to fix it.
I once actually had professional pictures taken of myself in this cemetery to hopefully bring awareness to this tragedy so something would be done. I have tried many times to find out who was in charge so a plan of change and restoration would be made.
The crazy part is that this is no abandoned cemetery. People are still being buried here to this day. I just know that if it was one of my family members buried there and had their final resting place destroyed, I would want it to be right again.
As some die hard horror fans that are fans of Stephen King know that the title of this cache is a line from one of his greatest works of art, Pet Sematary. Although I would never mean any type of disrespect to resting places, I thought the line summed this cemetery up perfectly... Plus I have to make sure I recognize the Master Of Horror himself!
Although the cache is outside of the cemetery, I highly recommend you going inside during the normal hours of operation to see this all for yourself and hopefully be inspired to help me help the souls their to have their graves restored! Again, thank you so much for finding my cache and make sure to take a moment of silence where the dead talk. 🖤
