Milk stands began to illustrate the Estonian landscape in the late 1960s, when it was customary to keep one or two cows in rural families. The milk of private cows was collected by milk trucks traveling around the country for up to 200 kilometers, they took the milk to the plant. The stand was needed so that the driver could comfortably pick up the milk containers and then pour them into the cistern truck. In summer, milk was collected every day, in winter more than a day. To prevent the milk from freezing in the bowl, coats and sweaters were wrapped around the bowl. There was also a money box next to the stand, where the fee for the transported milk was left once a month. From the beginning of the 1990s, the milk stands began to disappear as milk production from individual cows was no longer collected due to changes in milk production and sanitary requirements.
Today few stands in such good condition are still preserved as sights.

Piimapukid hakkasid Eesti maastikku ilmestama 1960. aastate lõpus, mil oli maaperedes kombeks pidada üht-kaht lehma. Eralehmade piima kogusid maal kuni 200 kilomeetri pikkusi ringsõite tegevad piimaautod, mis viisid piima kombinaati. Pukki oli vaja selleks, et autojuht saaks piimanõud mugavalt kätte, et need siis tsisternautosse valada. Suvel koguti piima iga päev, talvel üle päeva. Et piim nõudes ei jäätuks, keerati nõude ümber kasukad ja kampsunid. Puki küljes oli ka rahakast, kuhu korra kuus jäeti ära veetud piima eest tasu. 1990. aastate algusest hakkasid piimapukid kaduma, kuna piimatootmise ja sanitaarnõuete muutumise tõttu ei kogutud enam üksikute lehmade piima.
Tänaseks on säilinud vähesed, mida nii heas seisukorras vaatamisväärsustena veel säilitatakse.
