IMPORTANT: Help our host plan adequately for this event by noting a 'Will Attend' if you plan to participate. If plans change, please edit your original log to a 'write note' or delete it if you prefer, as this will adjust the attendance count and keep it accurate. Thank You!
NOTE: GZ for this is under the South end of Alex Fraser Bridge, off River Road. Please do not arrive 30m above us.. not much going on up there!
The Cougar Canyon Streamkeepers (CCS) have many projects that are all interconnected in the environmental stewardship of the creek. In 2021, we helped restore trails, install protective fencing on trees to protect from beavers, plant shrubs and trees, liberate trees from ivy and brambles, construct temporary fencing etc. However they are also deeply involved in the management of raingarden projects in North Delta. There are currently 26 rain gardens which help filter run off from streets, driveways and roofs and to slow the flow of water entering the stream systems.
Many of these rain gardens are created and maintained by schools, churches, some youth organisations, and others have been adopted by local familes, all in partnership with CCS.
Tidewaters actually has two rain gardens at this location, which were created years apart from each other. For this stewardship event we'll be joining CCS volunteers to tend to the rain garden. We'll be weeding, mulching, weed whacking, litter picking (lots of this) and pruning.. aka Gardening.
