Geocache Description:

There are many iconic Alaska wildlife species, but the coyote is not among them. Most people probably associate coyotes more with the desert than the near-Arctic.

But coyotes are nothing if not adaptable. It is not the cold that keeps the coyote populations small in Alaska -- it is the wolves.

Coyotes are newcomers to the Last Frontier, arriving about 100 years ago following after people who trapped and hunted wolves. They first prowled Southeast Alaska, then up the Yukon and Tanana River basins to the Interior, and then south to Anchorage and down the Kenai Peninsula.

Coyotes are being spotted more often in the Anchorage area. Since Campbell Creek is a major wildlife and recreation corridor through Anchorage, be on the lookout for both coyotes and road runners while you are searching for the cache.
