PT: Este Power Trail (PT) foi criado para dar a conhecer os emblemáticos fontanários da histórica freguesia de Gaula, uma terra rica em nascentes e canais de água. Convidamo-lo a desfrutar de um belo passeio e a descobrir estes testemunhos da arquitetura popular madeirense.


EN: This Power Trail (PT) was designed to showcase the iconic water fountains of the historic parish of Gaula, a land rich in natural springs. We invite you to enjoy a beautiful walk and discover these traditional landmarks of Madeiran popular architecture.

 

🇵🇹 O Fontanário da Portada do Porto Novo

🧱 Características e Construção: Este fontanário específico localiza-se no Caminho da Portada do Porto Novo (Coordenadas: 32°39'50.2"N). É uma estrutura de utilidade pública tradicional, construída em cimento e cobertura de telha, erguida originalmente para abastecer a população local com água potável antes da chegada da rede canalizada às habitações.

💧 Património Social: Um fontanário ou chafariz é uma construção provida de uma ou mais bicas de onde jorra água limpa. Geralmente situados em locais abertos e de passagem pública, estes pontos serviam historicamente para saciar a sede dos transeuntes, manter a humidade local e, acima de tudo, funcionar como o grande ponto de encontro e convívio das gentes de Gaula. Por favor, preserve este património e não estrague nada!

             🇬🇧 The Portada do Porto Novo Water Fountain

 

🧱 Characteristics and Building: This specific fountain is located at Caminho da Portada do Porto Novo. It is a traditional public landmark, built using concrete with a tiled roof, originally erected to provide fresh drinking water to the local population before indoor plumbing reached the rural areas.

💧 Social Heritage: A public water fountain is a structure equipped with one or more spouts flowing with fresh water. Usually placed in open public spaces, these fountains historically served to quench the thirst of travelers, maintain local humidity, and, most importantly, act as a vibrant social hub and meeting point for the people of Gaula. Please respect this heritage and do not damage anything!
