Mays Landing Train Staiton Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Up until 1966, there was a train going through downtown Mays Landing. The station opened up in 1929 at 24 Taylor Ave and was part of the West Jersey and the Pennsylvania Reading Seashore lines, connecting Philadelphia to Atlantic City. While the trqcks are no longer there, they date back to the 1800's. It was the site of a horrible accident in 1880, where approximately 30 people died and 60 were injured. Some of the trestles still exist over the Great Egg Harbor River. The county now owns the property and was originally going to make the trail into a bike path, but there hasn't been any recent talks about that. The old station is boarded up and has some graffiti on it.                                                                                               .
There is parking at the end of Taylor Ave, in a dirt/gravel lot. People fish and walk their dogs here so be careful of muggles. Also, don't wear shoes you don't want getting wet. When I did some maintenance on the cache, they'd was a little bit of water around GZ, but it looked like high tide. It wasn't ankle deep, but deep enough to make my shoes wet
