El susurro de la escultura
DESCRIPTION
Once upon a time there was, in a hypothetical parallel reality, in the listed coordinates a sculpture that came to measure more than 29 meters high and weigh more than 36 tons inhabited for a short period of time.
It was known as the sculpture of the hands; iron, steel and copper made up three arms and hands that held his three doves of peace. Since its inauguration, on September 28, 2010, it lived happily in its idyllic location, from the center of a roundabout its majestic silhouette welcomed those who liked to enter the city of Castellón de la Plana from its southern access. Admired by many, because it had been created to represent peace and the unity of peoples, in addition to honoring the victims of terrorism from around the world.
It displeased many others, either because of the artist's association with the color of the political party from which the work was commissioned or because its location and final cost differed from those expected.
Like many short stories where its endings mark that "stories, stories are and the wind ends up taking them away", this one could not be less poetic…. On January 26, 2013, strong gusts of wind knocked down much of the structure.
As the award of the contract for the work had passed, it was not surprising that neither the construction companies, nor the engineer, nor the insurance company, nor the artist, nor the City Council were willing to put up a single euro to return the sculpture to its condition original.
After the accident, the artist spent the night next to the demolished sculpture, he stated that he had had a conversation with her, realizing that now, after his fall, it was really when his work could be considered finished. «Leave me, don't touch me», is what the artist who said the sculpture said.
Against all odds, after ten months of negotiations and technical reports, it was decided to repair the Sculpture of Peace at no cost to the municipal coffers. Repair that had the refusal of the creative artist, who labeled those in charge of issuing the report that led to the new works as a "subculture board" to leave it at half of how it was originally devised.
