Mingo Cemetery is an old place with some once-well-known families and connections to several still-existing families in the Dixie-Taylor County area. One of the families, of whom many are buried here, is the one discussed in my nearby geocache,
GC74QH2 ITMON #2: Florida Ghost Towns - Hines
A satellite view of this area, as well as a drive north or south along this road, will demonstrate the "tram line" levee remains, built up through areas which are often quite wet. This was land where huge cypress trees were once plentiful, but were all logged out nearly 100 years ago.
If you decide to walk through the cemetery, please watch your step. Many of the markers have disappeared, or been damaged, so you will want to be respectful of where you step.
You can also see a very old survey marker outside the fence at the corner post by the large oak. Unusal and worth examining more closely.
