Geocache Description:

This is a letterbox hybrid geocache.  There is a handcarved stamp.  You will need to bring your own ink pad. If you are not a letterboxer, you need to know the stamp is NOT FOR TRADE!  It stays with the cache!!!  NO TAKEY....GOT IT????

This cache also  has some cool pioneer charms for trade for as long as they last.  There's room for small swag, geocoins and a few small travelbugs.  Please,.no paper clips or business cards or sticks of gum!!!!   LIMIT: 1 pioneer swag item per party!

About the Cache:

This is a historic-themed geocache honoring an early Mormon pioneer and settler named Anson Call and his two twin brothers, Homer and Omer. The cache owners are great grandchildren of Anson Call.  Madambutterfly1822 is sixth generation.  Railroader921 is seventh generation. We chose to make this cache together to honor him and the other brave and hardy settlers of this niche of BoxElder County.

These coordinates will take you to a rock monument erected on the location where an old pioneer fort once stood.  The fort was built by the Call brothers and served as a defensive structure in case of an Indian attack, although it was never needed for that purpose.  It was a 120 square feet in size, with 8-foot rock walls 3-feet thick, using rock gathered from river by the twins' flour mill.  Some of the original rocks from the fort were used to make the monument. If you like geology or pretty rocks, it is worth the ride here just to see these!

When you visit, look off to the west and try to imagine what this place looked like back in the 1850's.  It is still a very beautiful place today, very rural and homey with breath-taking views of the mountains on the east  and to the west, miles and miles of open fields and farmland all the way to the horizon.  If you happen to arrive here in the early evening, you should know you are in for a real show!!  This place has jaw-dropping sunsets!

A short distance from the monument,  just north up the road a piece, is  Call's Fort Road which leads to Call's Fort Cemetery.  Look for a tall white metal gate on the east side of the road.  If you are at all interested in old cemeteries, you may want to pay this one a visit.  Fanny, sister to the three Call brothers, is the only Call buried there.  The rest are people from the community by the fort.

Please make sure everything is safe and secure and then rehide the cache in its original position so it is not obvious to the next comer.

We hope you enjoyed your visit here!  Please write more than TFTC or your geocaching itinerary.  Would love to know what thoughts you had while visiting this spot and if you have early pioneer connections.
