This cache is part of the patriotic series that began before the November 3, 2020 election and is about our flag and Constitution. Each cache will have at least one stage where you will be able to spot an American flag. The posted coordinates for this cache are for the flag. On the day of publication, this flag looks brand new.

Preamble

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America.

 

Amendment 24
 Citizen’s suffrage rights and taxes

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.

Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy’s State of the Union address encouraged the elimination of both poll taxes and literacy tests. There had been attempts to ban poll taxes for many years, and JFK’s speech helped provide a necessary push in that direction. The proposed amendment would only eliminate poll taxes in federal elections. This was a compromise with representatives who strongly believed in states’ rights and was an attempt to make sure that the Amendment would pass in both the Senate and the House. The compromise worked, the amendment passed successfully through Congress, was quickly adopted by the required three-fourths of the states and became official in 1964.
