This cache has been archived.

Captain Terror: Three weeks on, it's time to say goodbye to this event, and look forwards to 2022.

A big ol' thank-you to everyone who came along to donate some time and energy to a cleaner world! And the helper organisations who supported the effort!

Geocache Description:

30 December 2021, 11:30 - 12:30

8 million tonnes of plastic enters our oceans every year, 80% of it originates from rivers. After wet weather, more than usual is washed down gutters, drains and into rivers. Fill your festive period with some feel-good and let's try intercept some of it before it gets out to Moreton Bay and beyond.

You'll be having a direct and positive impact on the local, regional and global environment at this event. Plus, the opportunity to hang out with other cool geocachers, and maybe find the local geocaches afterwards!

What's the Plan?
This is a CITO Event, and will be tackling the mangroves and roadside areas near Brighton Park. We'll have a staging area set up at GZ with the equipment you'll need and it's where you'll return rubbish to.

When we finish with the collection, there's a couple of taps to clean up, and BBQ's available to sort out some lunch. I likely will be extending my stay for some of that action!.

There is a lot of area to cover, and it's hidden in all sorts of terrain - from around the mown grass, along the rockwalls, and deep into the mangroves. The CITO is timed with low tide, so we'll have maximum access to the areas without getting overly wet. Check out the map for the extent of the cleaning area, which will be possible to access and clean up. Whether you stick to the roadside, go mangrove diving (or even for a paddle up the creek!) - up to you!

Meet at GZ at 11:30 where you'll be briefed and can pick a section to clean. Then, when you've filled your bags, the tide turns,or 12:30 arrives, we'll reconvene at GZ for the group photo and to hand out prizes and giveaways. I have over $100 worth of goodies to give out (geocaches, trackables and such). But, the deal is, we're going to try to fill the 1m3 bulk bag at GZ!

What to Bring?
Please wear appropriate clothing (I would recommend long pants and shoes that can get wet). BYO sunscreen, bug spray, gloves and water. Bags will be provided.

We want this to be a fun, social and engaging event while still being COVID-Safe.
I kindly ask that you agree to the following expectations:
• Stay at home if you are at all unwell,
• Keep a social distance from those not from your household, and
• Maintain good hand hygiene.

To make this event both possible and as brilliant as it will be, let's thank the sponsors:
Brisbane City Council; who are providing rubbish collection,
Ocean Crusaders Waterway Cleaning; who provided bags and equipment, and
All Things Geo; who donated a bunch of prizes and giveaways.
