Background

Welcome to my series of odd and miscellaneous challenges.

After I started to see some of the logs and checker output coming from the GC8ZME1 10 Types, 365 Days Challenge Olio #1 - SF2021 cache, something stood out and I thought to myself "Hmm, well, isn't that interesting?" And just like that, the idea for another challenge was born, with that special Olio twist added to it of course.

The next step was to figure out if I qualified for the challenge myself as per the geocaching rules for publishing challenges. After some analysis, I realized it would be months before I could complete the challenge myself so I came up with a plan for that and then when to publish the challenge after that.

The whole Olio series was becoming so complicated, it seemed like I was sometimes plotting things out months in advance (even now still). It's like I needed a blueprint just to keep track of everything. Soon I'll just start calling this the OCU - Olio Challenge Universe. Perhaps this could be our future logo...

But for now, please enjoy the next challenge in this phase of the OCU...

A new year - a new challenge!

January 1st seems like the perfect day to introduce this challenge. If you already qualify for it, what better way to celebrate the start of the new year than by signing the log for a challenge that is based on the calendar? And if you don't qualify, then this is a perfect opportunity to make a new year's resolution to complete this challenge and we'll look forward to you logging this cache before the next January 1st.

The Challenge

To qualify for this challenge, you must fill in two month/day calendar grids with traditional caches - one grid with found dates and a second one with their hidden dates. Essentially, you must find one traditional cache on all 365 days of the year and find traditional caches that were hidden on every day of the year as well.

The Requirements

Some more things about the challenge to be aware of:

  • For both the hidden and found date grids, only the day and month matter for this challenge; the year is irrelevant.
  • Leap Day aka February 29th is not required for either calendar grid as well. It's considered a nice to have for this challenge but not part of the mandatory 365 days of the year for either found or hidden date calendars.
  • The finds do not have to be sequential in any way. In other words, no consecutive day streaks are required for this challenge.
  • You can not use your own caches for either calendar grids in this challenge. In the past you were able to log your own caches.
  • In the past, it was also possible to log the same cache multiple times. Those caches can only be used once for the found part of the challenge, only on the first day it was found.
  • Past finds count. Any caches that you have found and have been archived or disabled after you have found them can be used for this challenge if it meets the criteria.
  • Again, only traditional caches can be used for this challenge. No other cache types are permitted.

The fine print

CO reserves the right to make any changes to this challenge if any issues or ambiguities are discovered. CO will be fair but has the final say on any events, caches, finds, or logs that are questionable. CO reserves the right to delete any logs if problems are found.

Finding This Cache

Do NOT access this cache from Highway 2 or the on-ramp. Please use the nearby service road instead. Do not block the entrance or use the driveway to the nearby business on the west side of the service road for parking. There is short term parking available on the east side of the access road closest to GZ.

Please watch your step while approaching GZ; the ground is uneven in places and there are potential hidden obstacles under the snow. Please remember to be respectful of the cache location. Be aware of how and where the cache is "attached" so that it can be put back in exactly the same way and in the same place for the next person(s) to enjoy. The container may not be accessible during the winter months.

Logging This Cache

As with any challenge caches, you are welcome to physically sign the log for this cache and log it as "Write Note" if you haven't met the challenge's requirements yet. Please bring your own pen(cil)/writing instrument to sign the log.

Please use this Project-GC challenge checker below to verify if you have qualified for this challenge.

PGC Checker

***** PLEASE NOTE *****
The checker for this challenge was updated on March 9th, 2022 to correct an error. If you ran the checker previous to that date and haven't completed this challenge, please run the checker again to verify your missing dates haven't changed.

You can only log a "Found It" entry online after you've completed the challenge and signed the log. All non-qualifying "Found It" logs will be deleted without notice.

Missing Hidden Dates?

This is a PSA to help out those cachers who haven't completed this challenge yet. We can't help you with the found date calendar grid portion but it may be useful to consolidate the various hidden days that cachers are missing into one infographic. Please feel free to write a note if you are missing a few specific dates.
