It's Boxing Day!
Starting in 2012, I have hosted Boxing Day events in Spokane, Washington, when I am visiting my mother, who lives there. I have missed a couple of years because of travel plans, but we have now had eight events in the Inland Empire.
However, this year I will be in northern Virginia for the holiday and I decided to host an afternoon/evening event here to allow the northern Virginia cachers to experience this British-based holiday.
According to the good folks at Wikipedia...
Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated the day after Christmas Day, occurring on the second day of Christmastide. Though it originated as a holiday to give gifts to the poor, today Boxing Day is primarily known as a shopping holiday. It originated in the United Kingdom and is celebrated in a number of countries that previously formed part of the British Empire. Boxing Day is also concurrent with the Christian holiday Saint Stephen's Day.
In parts of Europe, such as Bulgaria, Catalonia, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Scandinavia, December 26 is celebrated as a second Christmas Day.
I have talked with the manager at the retail establishment and they welcome us to gather at this location. I will be there by 3:45 and do not plan to leave before 6:00. Hopefully, you will be able to come by for at least a few minutes to have some post-Christmas caching get-together fun. There are a few caches in the area - and on the way if you are traveling that way.
We are going to be COVID-conscious at this indoor event. We will maintain our distance, we will be supportive of wearing masks, and I will sign the event log on your behalf if you prefer.
Please read the current Virginia and local COVID guidelines if you have questions regarding the status of events.
