The Evans family were the only civilians in Hucknall to be killed during WWII
Alice and Albert Evans (aged 28) and their children Ronald (8) Alice (6) and John (2) were killed outright when a plane crashed into their house.
The pilot LAC EW Rozmiarrek of the Polish Airforce was also killed in the crash after his plane, which had been relegated to training aircrew, stalled just 400 yards from Hucknall airfield. He is buried in Hucknall cemetery
There is an eyewitness account from someone who lived in the other half of the semi with her 9 brothers and sisters, dad and pregnant mum. She remembers being rescued from the flames by a ladder at the window. The Salvation Army re-clothed the family and they were divided up between relatives until they could be re-housed.
If you have found the cache, you will be standing in front of a metallic piece of street furniture and will have worked out that the cache is NOT magnetic and just tucked down by the left back corner. If you follow the road down to the right you will see that the house on the corner of Ruffs Drive and Laughton Crescent is significantly different in design to the others - that is the site of the crash.
If you have anything to add to this piece of local history, I would be very interested to hear it.
