Because of your amazing good looks, phenomenal intellectual capability, and stellar puzzle solving abilities, you have been selected to go on an all-expenses paid (fake) voyage to Fantastik Island. Your host, Mr. Agazo, made a fortune in Geocaching. With his massive resources, he purchased an island in the middle of the ocean and devoted it solely to Geocaching. He also purchased a luxury yacht to take cachers to the island.
You board his massive 601 feet long yacht which will take you to the island. No expense has been spared aboard the vessel. Your room is the largest suite with an awesome balcony. You enjoy the finest meals prepared by award-winning chefs who serve any type of food you desire. There are many recreational opportunities onboard for you to enjoy: bowling, snooker, ice skating, beekeeping, golf, skiing, and Whac-a-mole.
Mr. Agazo explains that he has located nineteen (fake) caches on beautifully green Fantastik Island. Since they are equidistant and follow a perfect pattern (See picture), it would be no challenge for any Geocacher to find them all very quickly, so he has made rules that you must follow.
- On the first day, you will be ferried ashore and may find as many caches as you desire.
- At the end of the day, you return to the yacht where you feast on gourmet food and enjoy rest and relaxation.
- On each subsequent day, you can only find caches which have three or more neighbor caches that you have already found on any previous day. For example, the gray cache located in the middle of the island has exactly six neighbors.
- On each day, find as many caches on the island as possible according to the rules. You must eventually find all of the caches on the island. Be careful, the yacht leaves in seven days, with or without you..
- You must start with the minimum number of finds on the first day which allows you to meet all the other requirements.
- The caches are color coded blue, yellow, red and gray. You need to remember the number of the day you found each cache so you can compute the coordinates of the physical cache for this puzzle. The first day is 1, the second is 2, etc.
- On the first day only, you may find only an even number of yellow caches, either none, two, four, or six. On subsequent days, there is no restrictions on how many of each color you may find.
If you violate the rules or fail to find all the caches, you will be put to work on the yacht as a galley lackey, swab the decks, and provide entertainment for other guest cachers who are sure to follow.
To find the real-life cache, add up the number of the day that you found all of the caches of each of the four colors, blue, yellow, red and gray. Call these numbers, B, Y, R and G. (For B, Y, and R you will be adding together six numbers, and for G only one.) Then you will need to find ABC and DEF for the final coordinates.
