Heritage Trees ~ The New Deal

Continuation of my Heritage Trees series...
For those of you that don't know, FDR (one of our better past Presidents) spearheaded something called "The New Deal". The New Deal came about as our country was trying to recover from the economic disaster of The Great Depression. It did a lot of stuff - it implemented reforms on trade and banking, established labor and financial regulations, and it repealed prohibition (thank you FDR). It also formed major federal programs and agencies intended to support farmers, the elderly, the unemployed, and people who needed help. For example, Social Security, which you may have heard of, came about from The New Deal.
Another program that was borne from The New Deal was the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The CCC provided employment and pay to many men at a time when other work was hard to find. At the same time, it produced infrastructure from the work of these men.
At the location of this geocache, back in the mid- to late-1930s, there was a big camp located here on this peninsula at the top of Lake Worth. It was a CCC camp - with barracks, mess hall, etc. The men who lived here worked to plant trees, build trails, and build stone structures all around the area of Lake Worth, including the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge, Mosque Point, Casino Beach, and Marion Sansom Park. Nothing of the old camp really remains today. There is very nice monument here and a flagpole is maintained where the original flagpole was located.
There are a few other things that remain here today from that time. You won't be able to miss the amazing Post Oak trees that are located here. They are 200 years old and are living witnesses to the CCC camp that bustled here many years ago. They are designated as Fort Worth Heritage Trees.
At the location of the posted coordinates you will find the monument that I previously mentioned. The majestic Post Oaks are right there too. The monument has a lot of information on it.
