BILLY THE KID's CABIN on OLD ROUTE 66
Billy the Kid of outlaw fame supposedly spent the winter of 1879-1880 holed up in a cabin on the western rim of Canyon Diablo near Two Guns. Now we don't really know if these ruins are what is left of that cabin, but we will let our imaginations run with it.
To get to the ruins go through Two Guns to the west on Old 66. You will come to a spot where the original road is fenced off, but the dirt road arcs to your left (south) until hitting a gate. If you go through the gate, park and hike back north to the old road and over the concrete bridge that was part of Rte 66. It's an easy hike along 66 another quarter mile to the west to the ruins of what might be left of Billy's winter abode.
As always with these relics of the past, please be respectful - no need to pull the walls apart.
