T'was the night before Christmas
Though you've heard this before
This is not the same story
No, not anymore
You see it wasn't yet night
It was afternoon still
When we spotted black smoke
Rising over the hill
At about five o'clock
Or a little bit past
A bush fire had started
It was moving quite fast
There were no roasting chestnuts
Nor stockings hung near
This fire cared not
For our Christmas cheer
The fire pressed on
As the cruel wind speed rose
While we flooded the gutters
And manned every hose
But quick to the rescue
Came the town CFS
And the Farm Fire Units
Prepared for the test
The Aerial Water Bombers
Came swift from the sky
As Santa pulled over
To let them pass by
On that Christmas Eve
They fought through the night
And come Christmas Day
We would all be alright
So now a year later
There is new growth a plenty
There's no longer much damage
From Christmas Eve 2020
With thanks to our firefighters
We take hope in this sight
A safe Christmas to all
And to all a good night.
