Oase in de woestijn
Enkele eeuwen geleden vestigde de stam AÎt Sahel zich in deze palmtuin langs de oevers van de Oued Drâa. Vele generaties lang leefden zij van de opbrengst van de dadelpalmen en olijfbomen. Tot op heden wordt deze palmtuin nog steeds op traditionele wijze geïrrigeerd en gecultiveerd.
Toen rond 1985 de eerste woestijntoeristen in het diepe zuiden van Marokko verschenen om de ongerepte Sahara te ontdekken, besliste Mahjoube Chemseddine, een gerespecteerd lid van de stam AîT Sahel, in deze paradijselijke tuin een eenvoudige camping op te richten.
Vandaag biedt deze prachtige tuin, aangevuld met tamarisk, eucalyptus, mimosa, oleander, en vele andere woestijnplanten, een sfeervolle en authentieke omgeving waarin een klein hotel, enkele bungalows en de originele camping genesteld zijn.
De Belgische uitbater Luc Van Gucht, wereldreiziger, avonturier en kenner van Marokko, kan samen met zijn vaste medewerkers Hassan en Mohamed en lokale specialisten helpen bij het organiseren van wandelingen in de omgeving of het verkennen van de Sahara te voet, per dromedaris of per4x4.

Oasis dans le désert
Il y a quelques siècles, la tribu AÎt Sahel s'est installée dans cette palmeraie au bord de l'Oued Drâa. Pendant de nombreuses générations, ils ont vécu du produit des palmiers dattiers et des oliviers. À ce jour, cette palmeraie est toujours irriguée et cultivée de manière traditionnelle.
Lorsque, vers 1985, les premiers touristes du désert sont apparus dans le sud profond du Maroc pour découvrir le Sahara intact, Mahjoube Chemseddine, un membre respecté de la tribu AîT Sahel, a décidé d'installer un simple camping dans ce jardin paradisiaque.
Aujourd'hui, ce beau jardin, agrémenté de tamaris, d'eucalyptus, de mimosas, de lauriers roses et de nombreuses autres plantes du désert, offre un environnement atmosphérique et authentique dans lequel se nichent un petit hôtel, quelques bungalows et le camping d'origine.
Le manager belge Luc Van Gucht, grand voyageur, aventurier et connaisseur du Maroc, avec ses permanents Hassan et Mohamed et des spécialistes locaux, peut aider à organiser des balades dans la région ou explorer le Sahara à pied, en dromadaire ou en 4x4.

Oasis in the desert
A few centuries ago, the AÎt Sahel tribe settled in this palm grove along the banks of the Oued Drâa. For many generations they lived on the produce of the date palms and olive trees. To this day, this palm garden is still irrigated and cultivated in the traditional way.
When, around 1985, the first desert tourists appeared in the deep south of Morocco to discover the untouched Sahara, Mahjoube Chemseddine, a respected member of the AîT Sahel tribe, decided to set up a simple campsite in this paradise garden.
Today this beautiful garden, supplemented with tamarisk, eucalyptus, mimosa, oleander, and many other desert plants, offers an atmospheric and authentic environment in which a small hotel, a few bungalows and the original campsite are nestled.
The Belgian manager Luc Van Gucht, world traveler, adventurer and expert on Morocco, together with his permanent employees Hassan and Mohamed and local specialists, can help organize walks in the area or explore the Sahara on foot, by dromedary or by 4x4.
