A 2 stage multi to explore a section of the old right of way for the Burnaby Lake Line of the BC Electric Railway Interurban. As you walk the trails you will find old power poles that have been cut off above the ground but nothing else from the old interurban appears to remain around here. I enjoyed looking at the BC Electric Railway Map while researching the area.
Near the posted coordinates you will find a utility pole where you will find four lines of alphanumeric characters burnt into the north side of the pole about 2 m above the ground. You will also find a brass coloured tag with a number stamped into it. You can assume A=1 for any conversions.
The coordinates for the final location are N49 14.ABC W122 54.DEF:
- A = third digit from brass tag =
- B = sixth digit from brass tag =
- C = third character from fourth line of four lines burnt into wood =
- D = (first character from first line - first character second line) of four lines burnt into wood =
- E = second character on second line of four lines burnt into wood =
- F = (fourth digit + fifth digit) from brass tag =
- checksum = 23
