This Geocache is in honor of my grandpa. It is located near my house so please feel free to come on by! The physical cache is attached to my grandpa's favorite place to be.
A little history... My grandpa had been through a lot in the past couple years. He had suffered a heart attack, bladder cancer, and what we believe to be covid-19 when it first came out in March 2020. It first started when he was attacked in a grocery store parking lot defending his truck that belonged to his brother who had passed away. He had spent the years of 2017, 2018, and 2019 in and out of hospitals. In 2020 we were told we were going to have to let him go because there was nothing else they could do or he would live the rest of his life on a vent. Well, being the hard-headed person he was, he ended up living 3 more years NOT on a vent. My family and I watched him go from this bubbly, hard-working, care-taker of his wife.. to a man who could not get out of his bed, was under 24/7 care, and spoke nothing but gibberish to us. We love him so much, and wanted to do this in his honor. He never thought twice about helping someone, and it feels like there isnt a person in the town of Shelby that doesnt know him. He lived here with us and we took care of him and treated him the way he should have been. Unfortunately, he ended up passing May 19th, 2023.. but he loved watching the cachers come look for the box :')
