In the mid-1980s, in the area of Stroeşti in Ialomiţa, the communists were going to build an accumulation lake. When it was put into operation, the waters completely covered the local church. The church of Stroeşti village, which was dedicated to "Saints Michael and Gabriel" was built at the beginning of the 19th century. The records of the time revealed that the most famous cult monument was built between 1830 and 1840.
According to the plan, a large accumulation lake had to be built on the Ialomiţa river, in the area of Maia Fierbinţi and Dridu localities, so that the waters of Ialomiţa flowed here and did not flood the Urziceni.
The workers dug for three years non-stop. The project called for the lake to cover more than 20 hectares and a depth of 10 meters
The church from Stroeşti was located exactly on the place where the accumulation lake was arranged. When the waters of Ialomita flowed into the lake, the church was completely flooded. All that could be seen was the roof of the bell tower and the church tower.
Although they could have demolished the cult monument, the builders did not touch the church. However, due to the water, the monument would slowly deteriorate.

La mijlocul anilor 1980, în zona localităţii Stroeşti din Ialomiţa, comunuştii aveau să construiască un lac de acumulare. În momentul în care a fost pus în funcţiune, apele au acoperit în totalitate biserica localnicilor.
Biserica satului Stroeşti, ce purta hramul „Sfinţii Mihail şi Gavril” a fost ridicată la începutul secolului XIX. Hrisoavele vremii au scos la lumină faptul că, cel mai probabil monumentul de cult a fst construit între anii 1830-1840.
Conform planului, pe râul Ialomiţa trebuia să se construiască, în zona localităţilor Maia Fierbinţi şi Dridu, un mare lac de acumulare, astfel încât apele Ialomiţei să se reverse aici şi să nu inunde Urziceniul.
Muncitorii a săpat timp de trei ani fără încetare. Proiectul prevdea ca lacul să aibă o întindere de peste 20 de hectare şi o adâncime de 10 metri. Biserica de la Stroeşti se afla exact pe locul în care a fost amenjat lacul de acumulare. În momentul în care apele Ialomiţei s-au revărsat în lac, biserica a fost complet inundată. Se mai puteau zări doar acoperişul clopotniţei şi turla bisercii.
Cu toate că ar fi putut să dărâme monumentul de cult, constructorii nu s-au atins de biserică. Totuşi din cauza apelor, monumentul avea să se degradeze încet.
