Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE IS NOT LOCATED AT THE POSTED COORDINATES.

Welcome to the Fort Laurens Interpretive Sign Trail!

This cache is one of three mystery caches that utilizes information on the twelve outdoor signs that educate about the history of Ohio’s only Revolutionary War fort.  These signs educate the reader about the history of the fort, little known facts about its turbulent past, and its overall significance during this time period.  Exploring Fort Laurens #1 utilizes signs 1 – 4, Exploring Fort Laurens #2 utilizes signs 5 – 8, and Exploring Fort Laurens #3 utilizes signs 9 – 12.  We recommend that you first complete the calculations for all three.

The posted coordinates will take you to the first sign in that series where you will need to answer the questions below to get the final cache location.

Please see below for the formula and questions required to find the cache container for this geocache:

To find B – Read sign #6.  In one of the excerpts on the sign, a sentence reads, “The troops called it ‘Fort ________’”.  Fill in the blank with the correct answer and count the number of letters in that word.  That number minus one will give you B.

To find C – Read sign #7.  This sign tells how many men died at Fort Laurens and were buried in the fort cemetery.  Take that number of men and subtract seventeen.  That will give you C.

To find D – Read sign #8.  In one of the paragraphs on the sign, a sentence reads, “The troops resorted to eating herbs and even boiling ox-hides and _______ for soup.”  Fill in the blank with the correct answer and count the number of letters in that word.  That number minus five will give you D.
