Geocache Description:

This geocache, hidden in the corner of this large car park marks a tiny piece of unknown heritage.

This site used to be Southend gasworks until it was eventually turned into a car park. This tiny piece of orange wall and the structure behind it hides a secret. Behind this wall is a WW2 Home Guard Observation post made out of reinforced concrete. It's dimensions are 8ft 5in x 10ft 3in with a height of 7ft 3in. At the time of construction it would have been hidden by the gasworks conveyor which went high over the road at this point making it difficult to spot from the air. A firing slot was cut into the brick at the front measuring 36cm x 8cm into the gasworks wall to enable the Home Guard to observe any vehicles moving along the seafront and to fire at them in the event of an invasion.

Take a look and you will see the firing slot is still in the wall today!

You are looking for a bison, low.
