#7: "It is the hometown of Pan Wenzhi, a lieutenant general of the navy in the Republic of China as well as a training base for the first phase of the Whampoa Military Academy students where the senior officials of the Kuomintang and Communist Party of China such as Chiang Kai-shek, Liao Zhongkai, Zhou Enlai, Xu Chongzhi and Bao Luoting conducted training."
This series is a pathway along the Shenchong canal through the heart of a dense urban village with a rich history and even richer contemporaneity. Zhucun Village has been around for hundreds of years, but before the 1970s and 1980s was an agricultural hamlet the inhabitants of which would find the present-day vibrant urban village unrecognizable. The series follows a canal which has seen popular public space improvements along it as part of Guangzhou's huge waterway improvement efforts over the last decade.
Each of the 10 caches in the Zhucun village part of the series features one sentence from the excellent Zhucun Village introduction provided in a sign along the way.
Reaching this cache along the canal requires a diversion through the myriad alleyways of the village.
