Celebrate Spring CITO 2022 by joining the Tri-State Geocachers in helping with some trail work and general clean-up and maintenance from the Winter season at the Brandwein Nature Learning Preserve.

Join us on Sunday, April 10 at 9:30am in working at the preserve along its trail system.
Our CITO tasks will be as follows, with a goal to get as many of these completed as possible to have the BNLP ready for upcoming Spring and Summer programs.
- A number of the wooden log benches have deteriorated to where we should remove them. Depending on weight, we can probably load what’s left of them into a wheelbarrow and pitch them in the woods.
- There’s a tree down across the trail. It shouldn’t be too hard to cut up. The logs can be tossed in the woods. If somebody has a chainsaw they can bring, please post and let us know. If not, Brandwein can probably get one.
- We’ve got a tree down across one of the bridges. We should have enough hands to move it into the woods. Also, the railing it took out comes to around 16’ of Trex that I’ll pick up along with some screws. If the 2 x4 Trex comes in 8’ lengths, we just need to cut them in half and screw them in place.
- There’s debris blocking the drainage out of the holding pond. If anyone has some waders you can bring we need someone to go in to clear the debris out.
- Owls, and possibly some ravens have left deposits in the Pavilion. It would be helpful to rake these out. We can possibly get staff to dump some gravel that can be raked over by a team of CITO participants.
- We would like to have someone clean the picnic tables with a pressure washer we have at the preserve.
- Someone can trim back some brambles growing near the storage shed. We have pruning shears handy for this.
- The trails are in pretty good shape this year. The erosion is not too bad, after some spots have already been repaired, but we can have some gravel dropped near the few bare spots so folks can rake it into place.
- And as usual, we'll need help with some roadside trash clean-up.
We'll split into separate crews in order to complete our tasks. As usual, care will be taken with respect to whatever recommendations may be in place for the pandemic.

This event ends at 11:30am. After the event is over, pre-bagged lunches will be safely provided by BNLP for CITO participants who signed up for a bag lunch by Monday, April 4. If you're planning to work and stay for the luncheon, please confirm your participation and include the number in your party in your Will Attend log by 4/4/22. The luncheon is not part of the CITO event; it's just a nice after-party thank you for all those who worked to help us complete these tasks.
Please log your will-attend as far in advance as possible so we can plan and be ready for you. Include the number attending in your party if you plan on joining us for lunch after the CITO.
CITO Participants are asked by the Brandwein Board to sign a waiver agreeing not to hold Brandwein liable.
Please visit the online waiver form at https://app.waiverforever.com/pending/l7stK7uOEY1515930431 and submit.
Paper copies will be on hand at the start of the CITO for additional people. Ignore the optional $5 donation that is requested on this form for those attending other Brandwein programs - this doesn't apply to the CITO, and since they don't have the CITO listed as an option on the form, just click on the other April 10 program when you submit.
Permission for this CITO event has been granted by David Foord of the Brandwein Institute.
