Geocache Description:

This is the nineteenth cache in a series of caches taking you to some of the less well-known locations in The Heatons and sharing with you some of the history of the area.

Stockport council website describes Thornfield Park as follows:

"Thornfield Park is a small park with only 1.8 hectares offering a superb range of facilities.

It has a very popular play area with full safety surfacing and boundary fencing to prevent access by dogs. There's also a hard surface tennis court, a new multi-use games area and a large bowling green."

Thornfield park is named after yet another of the great Heaton's houses: "Thornfield House" and you might well assume that Thornfield Park is where "Thornfield House" once stood.  But no, Thornfield house was located south of Thornfield Road (Where Curtis Road) is currently situated.  The park is on the north side of the road.  The house was sold in the 1930s by the Curtis family (Yes that's where the name Curtis Road comes from) and the land was developed for housing.

(Thornfield House before it was demolished)

You are looking for a disguised magnetic cache that would be "Hidden in plain sight"... if it wasn't for the ivy! ;-)

As you leave this cache to head to HH #20 - why not pass through the park and look for "Get out and roundabout" (https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC8KTCG) which is located in the park.
