This milestone cache is one in what will be a series of sixty hides placed to mark my milestone birthday which Covid 19 so rudely interrupted in 2020. I want to share their history and celebrate these wonderful monuments which quietly sit in our landscape.
Watch out for more caches popping up before my next milestone birthday!
This cache is dedicated to Terry Keegan: 1931 - 2012
Terry was born in Dublin and lived in many parts of the UK before finally settling on a farm at Clows Top. He had many passions, one of them being the preservation of monuments in our environment. In 2000 he founded the national Milestone Society with a remit to restore, preserve and protect these wonderful artefacts within our landscape. He also led the Worcestershire group and some 200 remaining milestones in the county were identified under his leadership.
It is appropriate to make this milestone the first in my Milestone Birthday series, not only because Terry lived here but also because it was the first milestone to be replated and re-erected to its original height by the Milestone Society.

About this milestone
This milestone is on the B4202 and was originally erected by the Cleobury and Bridgenorth Turnpike Trust. It is a second generation milestone where cast iron plates were added to the face of the stone increasing longevitiy of the information. There are about one hundred such milestones remaining in Worcestershire.
In 1940, central govenment gave instruction for every Highways Department to destroy their milestones. The plates were removed and sometimes the entire milestone was buried or destroyed to make sure that no navigational information was available to potential invading soldiers.

How to find the cache.
First answer the questions below using the informatioin above, then label each letter of the answers with its numerical value.
Eg: A = 1 : B = 2 : C = 3 ...
Working from left to right, use these numbers to complete the calculations for each word to find the values for U, V, W, X, Y, Z
Please note that all are mathematical symbols between the underscores ( ____ ) below:
Eg: ____ - ____ is minus!
1. What is name of the person whom this cache celebrates.
___ ÷ ___ + ___ + ___ - ___ = two digits
Add them together ( __ + __ = U )
___ + ___ + ___ ÷ ___ - ___ + ___ = two digits
Add them together ( __ + __ = V )
2. He founded what in the year 2000?
___ + ___ - ___ x ___ - ___ - ___ + ___ + ___ x ___ = three digits
Add them together ( __ + __ + __ = W )
___ - ___ x ___ + ___ + ___ + ___ - ___ = two digits
Add them together ( __ + __ = X )
Go to the posted coordinates and answer the final questions below.
3. How many miles to Cleobury? ( ___ = Y )
4. How many miles to Worcester? Add the two digits together ( ___ + ___ = Z )
To find GZ use the values for U, V, W, X, Y, Z to solve the equation below:
N 52° 20. ( U + W ) ( V - Y ) [ ( V x W ) - Z ]
W 2° 25. ( W + X ) ( Y - W ) ( U - X )
GZ is a short walk away. You may need a pen and tweezers. Please take care on what can be a busy road.
