Geocache Description:

The Newfane station was built in 1880 to service the Brattleboro and Whitehall Railroad. It was originally to go as far as Whitehall, NY but it only went 36 miles to South Londonderry, VT. Later it became the West River Railroad. It was a narrow gauge railroad. 36" between the rails as opposed to the standard gauge of 4feet 8 1/2 inches. The advantage was lower build cost and the ability to make sharper turns.

The disadvantage was that items being shipped had to be loaded or unloaded at Brattleboro onto standard gauge cars.

The depot was restored and opened to the public in 2017

Be careful of muggles!

Pill bottle covered in camo tape.

BYOP

When you're back at Route 30. Notice the old bank building across the street. No geocaches, but take a peek inside to see what banks looked like in the 1800s.
