The Louisville Southern Railway built this line in 1888 to connect Lousville and Lexington. After the acquisition and expansion of Versailles and Midway, through trains from Louisville to Cincinnati were operated over the line for a short time. The last trains to operate over the high bridge at Tyrone was in the 1980's.
From Lexington to Versailles, the line is operated by R.J. Corman, but from Verailles to the bridge over the Kentucky River, the Bluegrass Railroad Museum runs excursions on the weekends and some holidays
