Geocache Description:

If you read the story of Lumber Jack (GC9MF7M) - you know the story of how he came to be known by this name. What you do not know is the rest of the story and yes, there was a woman involved. Read on.

We pick up in the middle of Lumber Jack's story. If you remember, he and Paul spent their days chopping down trees in the northern woods of Wisconsin and selling the wood to the logging industry, who in turn would harvest it and finish it into lumber and sell it to the settlers who needed to build houses.

It was hard work for Jack and Paul and soon they hired other men in the area to work for them. As their logging camp grew, so did the need to employ a cook who could prepare meals for the lumberjacks.

Paul, who had more friends, decided to ask around to see if anyone in the area was looking for employment. Almost immediately, a woman named Jill contacted Paul and said she would be very interested in taking on employment as the logging camp cook. They came to agreement on wages and Jill began as camp cook.

Jill was a sturdy northern Wisconsin woman who could cook like no other woman in the area. All of the lumberjacks soon took a liking to Jill, not only because she was a fabulous cook, but also because she was a good looking woman. They all tried to win her affections.

However, from day one, Jill was anamoured with Jack - although Jack didn't have a clue. He had no history with women, nor did he have any intention of ever getting married. Jill did everything she could to get Jack's attention, but to no avail. Jack was oblivious of Jill's intentions.

The days wore on into weeks and then months. Jill knew she had to concoct a plan to get Jack to notice her if she had any hope of snagging him as a husband. Jill knew that Jack was a gentleman at heart, always willing to lend a hand, so at lunch one day, she asked him if he could help her move the cast iron kettle of stew to the serving table. Jack did not hesitate to help. Every day after that, Jill would ask Jack to help move the kettle. Jack was always willing to help.

As more and more men were hired, the amount of food that needed to be prepared to feed the hungry lumberjacks increased.  Soon Jill asked Jack if he could help her flip the "lumberjack" pancakes she served each morning for breakfast. Jack was happy to help. However, he was still oblivious of Jill's intentions.

One day, Jill finally decided to be bold. As they were finishing the flpping of the "lumberjack" pancakes, Jill "accidently" tripped, falling toward Jack, who being the gentleman he was, reached out to catch her. Jill feigned distress as she lay nestled in Jack's arms. It was in that moment that Jack looked down and felt his heart go pitter patter and he was smitten.

Needless to say, the rest is history. Jack married Jill and she affectionally became known to all in the logging camp as Lumber Jill.

And yes, Lumber Jack and Lumber Jill lived happily ever after!
