Feb 12th, 12:00pm - 1:00pm at Jones Park. All are welcome, you do not have to participate in the Exchange to log the event; but if you do wish to participate in the Valentine Cache Exchange you must follow the listed rules.
COME WEARING YOUR BEST HOMEMADE VALENTINE/APOCALYPSE COSTUME WIN PRIZES!
Please read the following Valentine Cache Exchange rules carefully:
1) Prior to arriving at the event, you must hide a gift (Valentine Cache) somewhere within 5 miles of the event location, this Valentine Cache will be for someone else. The Valentine Cache can be anything geocaching related (Trackables, SWAG items, cache containers, Tools Of The Trade, etc.). Please use your own judgment in selecting your Valentine Cache items and try to keep the cost between $5 and $10. Place your gift items in any type of cache container (weather resistant and bug-proof). Don't forget to mark a waypoint for your hidden gift.
*Because these will not be permanent caches, you do not have to follow normal rules for placement distance from an existing cache. But please respect private and restricted property in choosing your placement hide. Also note that since these will not be permanent caches, they cannot be submitted to geocaching.com as publishable caches.
*You can make it a traditional type cache, a puzzle-cache, or multi-cache to make the hunt more fun. Just remember the recipient may not be an experienced cacher.
2) You must bring a Valentine Card of any type (handmade, school-age exchange cards, etc) to the event. Inside the Valentine Card you must provide the coordinates to the Valentine Cache that you hid for another cacher to find. In addition to the coordinates, write your geocaching name and cell phone number just in case the receiving cacher needs to phone-a-friend to find their Valentine Cache. Also, include any unique attributes your cache may have; identify if the cache requires special tools or is not wheel-chair accessible, etc.
3) At the event, the Valentine Cards will be placed in a box and mixed up. Everyone who places a Valentine Card will then be able to randomly choose another Valentine Card. For families with multiple cachers, you may bring more than one Valentine Card, but there must be one Valentine Cache hidden for each Valentine Card placed in the box.
4) After the Valentine Card Exchange, we will take a group photo.
5) After the group photo, the event will end and you may disperse to go find your Valentine Cache. Remember... the entire cache is yours to keep including the container so make sure you take everything with you after the find.
6) Take a picture of your newly found gift and add it to your online log.
7) Hide a new permanent cache using all or part of your new Cachentine gift and name it after your Cupid or Apocalypse name as found below plus your cache name. For example, my last name is Hudson and my birthday is in October so my new cache will be named "Jazzy LoveyDovey -mrsahudson" I'll be having a date with Freddy Krueger, in a hospital, and the Apocalypse will begin after a massive EMP.
