Welcome to the beautiful Leatherstocking Trail, the southern end of Westchester County's Colonial Greenway Trail.
The Leatherstocking Trail is a 2.5-mile long trail running from Pinebrook Boulevard in New Rochelle to Rock Ridge Road in Mamaroneck Village. The trail provides a quick and easily accessed respite from urbanized life. Named after "the rugged, self-reliant outdoorsman of James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales" (Larchmont-Mamaroneck Patch, 8/7/2021, Jeff Edwards, Patch Staff).

The Leatherstocking Trail is one of the great hidden gems of the New Rochelle/Mamaroneck area. This undeveloped stretch of land was originally set to be a parkway in 1926 but was later preserved as trails for recreation by the efforts of local activists and citizens. Later, the building of Interstate 95 ensured the area would be untouched for future generations.
I've spent a great deal of time over the last two years on this trail and want to encourage others to do the same.
