Geocache Description:

A series of local caches placed at current locations taken from old photos, to show how things have changed, or maybe even stayed the same!

Although it had already closed by the time this photo was taken, circa 1910, The New Inn served the patrons of Verwood until 1906 and was said by some to combine with the church (just behind you) and school (formerly in the building that has been extended to become the Parish Centre, and whose playing field was the land now occupied by Churchfields bungalows) to provide education, salvation and damnation to the young men of Verwood!

Following its closure the premises became Priddle and Franklin's, a popular sweet shop, with Franklin's horse and trap taxi service run from the adjoining coach house and stables.  The building had become derelict by 1965 and the site has been empty for several decades now; it has outline planning permission for a children's nursery, but we shall have to wait and see!

Margard's Lane - in the image at the top it is incorrectly referred to as 'Margret's', perhaps due to the similarity between the written 'et' and 'd' letters at the time - remained a track until it was 'made up' in 1978, by when many more houses had been built, though the school at the bottom (now two, plus a pre school, youth club and sports hall) was still six years away at that time.

This is an offset multi and the final cache is a short walk away; it is on a short tether, please tuck back as found.  There is plenty of on-street parking, but please be mindful of local residents.  A point of interest - the host is an 'original item', as seen in the photo in the gallery.

At the posted coordinates you will see a lamp post (it might have blocked entry to the sweet shop/pub, had they coexisted!), above which is a directional sign, where:

A = the number of letters in the second word

B = the number of letter 'U's

C = the number of 'A's plus the number of 'L's (upper and lower case)

D = the number of 'F's

E = the number of lines of text

F = the number of letters in the first word, once expanded
