From August 2, 2021 to March 6, 2022 Geocachers around the world were given a challenge to reach new heights by virtually climbing to the Summit of the tallest mountains on seven continents by earning points for caches found each month.
The points required to earn the summit souvenir each month corresponded to the height of that month’s mountain. Everest is 8,848 meters tall so cachers were required to “reach the height” of 8,848 points to earn the "Everest Peak" souvenir.
Everest was the seventh of the Peaks and the souvenir could be earned from February 7 - March 6, 2022.
Mount Everest is a peak in the Himalaya mountain range. It is located between Nepal and Tibet, an autonomous region of China. At 8,848 meters (29,032 feet), it is considered the tallest point on Earth. In the nineteenth century, the mountain was named after George Everest, a former Surveyor General of India.
The cache is located along the Slocan Valley Rail Trail. It will be way easier to reach the cache and the ascent is less strenuous than to reach the summit of Mount Everest but this cache will help some to earn the "Peak Performer" souvenir.
The trail is groomed for cross country skiing in the winter but there is plenty of room for hikers and/or snowshoes.
