I put out the YEG series to celebrate some of the great things and places around Edmonton. I picked one place or thing for each letter of the alphabet. There might be some disagreement on what to use as sometimes there were more than one for each letter but I tried to pick something that I thought was very interesting or unique about Edmonton.
The Art Gallery of Alberta got its new name in 2005 and it is located in Churchill Square in downtown Edmonton. From 2007 to 2010, it underwent a $88 million redevelopment and was reopened to the public on January 31, 2010. Its collection includes over 6,000 works, with a focus on art produced in Alberta and western Canada. In addition its permanent collection, the museum also hosts travelling exhibitions. I think the building's architecture is stunning but not everyone is in love with it but at least it isn’t boring!!
