I put out the YEG series to celebrate some of the great things and places around Edmonton. I picked one place or thing for each letter of the alphabet. There might be some disagreement on what to use as sometimes there were more than one for each letter but I tried to pick something that I thought was very interesting or unique about Edmonton.
The Elks are Edmonton's football team in the CFL and the team was founded in 1949 as the Edmonton Eskimos . They are community owned and have won the Grey Cup 14 times, including a three-peat between 1954 and 1956 and an unmatched five consecutive wins between 1978 and 1982. The name change from "Eskimos" to "Elks" was formally announced on June 1, 2021.
