I put out the YEG series to celebrate some of the great things and places around Edmonton. I picked one place or thing for each letter of the alphabet. There might be some disagreement on what to use as sometimes there were more than one for each letter but I tried to pick something that I thought was very interesting or unique about Edmonton.
The Queen E. Pool, located on the south side of the river valley is the oldest municipal pool in Western Canada. The original pool was opened on August 22, 1922, but following a crack in the pool's basin, the facility was closed in 2004. The original pool was demolished in the summer of 2011 and reopened later that same year 600m to the west adjacent to the Kinsmen Sports Centre. The new pool has 6 lanes and is 25-metres in length with a children’s spray park. The old pool was one of the first outdoor pools that I swam at.
