Welcome to the small town of Ailey, GA. This charming little backroad stopover will give you a delightful glimpse into the past. This old town area offers a beautiful backdrop for amateur, as well as professional photographers. While driving along this quiet, secluded street, make sure you don't miss the original temporary city jail located just past the city hall. Temporary jails of this type are also known as CALABOOSES. In appearance, you might mistake the jail for a wood-sided pumphouse, but it will be worth your while to stop and have a look inside. It is one of the few remaining cabooses in the country. This particular calaboose is located on the National Register of Historic Places.
Ailey is also the birthplace of the famous boxer Sugar Ray Robinson. Robinson competed from 1945 to 1965. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. He is often regarded as the best boxer of all-time--pound for pound.
Happy Hunting!
