I put out the YEG series to celebrate some of the great things and places around Edmonton. I picked one place or thing for each letter of the alphabet. There might be some disagreement on what to use as sometimes there were more than one for each letter but I tried to pick something that I thought was very interesting or unique about Edmonton.
The Valley Zoo opened on July 1, 1959 and it runs year round except for Christmas day. The zoo is home to over 350 exotic and native animals and houses over 100 different species. It is owned and operated by the City of Edmonton. The inner area of the zoo was originally called the Storyland Valley Zoo and the exhibits had nursery rhyme motifs. The zoo went through a recent facelift and the entrance is very inviting now.
