Vodna postaja za oskrbo parnih lokomotiv Postojna
Za oskrbo parnih lokomotiv v prometu so bile potrebne razmeroma velike količine vode, tudi nad 700 m3 dnevno. V času, ko javno vodovodno omrežje še ni bilo razvito, je bila to zahtevna naloga, posebno na kraških površinah. Vodne postaje za oskrbo parnih lokomotiv z vodo so bile v Borovnici, Logatcu, Rakeku, Postojni, Pivki, Gornjih Ležečah, Divači in Sežani. Vodne postaje so v stoletju obratovanja obnavljali, večali in spreminjali ter prilagajali potrebam prometa in razvoju tehnike. Z ukinitvijo parne vleke so vodne postaje izgubile svoj pomen in tonejo v pozabo.
Glavni elementi vsake vodne postaje so bili: vir vode, črpalna naprava, rezervoarji, cevna mreža in napajalniki.Vodna postaja je obsegala en ali več visoko in blizu proge postavljenih rezervoarjev za vodo, od katerih so vodile cevi do napajalnikov ob tirih, kjer so točili vodo v zalogovnike parnih lokomotiv. Rezervoarji so bili nameščeni v posebni stavbi na postaji, imenovani vodni stolp, čim bližje napajalnikom in tako visoko, da je voda zaradi višinske razlike z lahkoto iztekala skozi napajalnik. Če je teren omogočal in je bila blizu postaje primerna vzpetina, so rezervoarje vgradili v zemlji nad progo (Postojna, Prestranek in Pivka). To je bilo posebno ugodno v zimskem času, saj voda v njih ni zmrznila.
Postojna Steam Locomotive Water Station

During the century of operation, water stations were renovated, enlarged and changed, and adapted to the needs of transport and the development of technology. With the abolition of steam traction, water stations lost their significance and sank into oblivion.

The tanks were installed in a special building at the station called the water tower, as close as possible to the power supplies and so high that water could easily flow through the power supply due to the height difference. If the terrain allowed and there was a suitable slope near the station, the tanks were installed in the ground above the line (Postojna, Prestranek and Pivka). This was especially beneficial in the winter, as the water in them did not freeze.
