First off- yes, it's a Pinecone. Cubbington found it in the Christmas clearance section at Michael's and was over the moon excited to make it into a geocache.
Second, I do not recommend this method of creating a geocache from a pinecone it was a pain in the butt. I would have abandoned it all together if it wasn't for the starry eyed 6 year old practically dancing in the kitchen with his excitement about his Pinecone cache while I burned my fingers repeatedly attempting to re-assemble and hot glue a Pinecone. 😅
Third, be gentle with it- it's a real Pinecone. 🤣
Fourth, enjoy finding our first (and only) Pinecone cache!
