Cette église néo-gothique au centre d’Ostende remplaça l’église Saint-Pierre qui brûla en 1896 et dont il ne reste que la tour en briques toute proche surnommée « Peperbusse ».
La nouvelle église était un projet de prestige du roi Léopold II.
Entre les deux portes du grand portail se trouve une statue de la Vierge à l’enfant Jésus.
A gauche et à droite du portail, les statues des saints patrons Pierre et Paul.
Derrière le chœur de l’église se trouve la chapelle de la Reine avec un sarcophage de la reine Louise-Marie (1812 – 1850), épouse de Léopold I, en marbre blanc et vert.

Tussen de twee deuren van het portaal staat een beeld van Maria met het kindje Jezus.
Links en rechts van het portaal staan de patroonheiligen Petrus en Paulus.
Achter het koor van de kerk is de Koninginnekapel met het witte en groene marmeren graf van koningin Louise-Marie (1812-1850), echtgenote van Leopold I.
This Neo-Gothic church in the town centre of Ostend replaced the Saint-Peter’s church that burned down in 1896 and of which only the nearby brick tower remains called the ‘Peperbusse’.
The new church was a project of prestige by king Leopold II.
In between the two doors of the entrance stands a statue of Mary with baby Jesus.
To the right and left of the entrance stand the patron saints of the church, Peter and Paul.
Behind the choir we can find the Queen’s Chapel with the white-and-green marble tomb of queen Louise-Marie (1812-1850), spouse to Leopold I.
