Meet from 11-11:30am at the posted coordinates, which is the McMillin Trailhead for the Foothills Trail near Orting. At 11:30, those who wish can take a ride on the Foothills Trail, returning to the starting point after about 11 miles.
The 44th in a series of events along the many mostly flat, mostly paved biking/walking trails in the Seattle area. This time we'll be visiting the Foothills Trail and the Carbon Riverfront Trail in Orting.
Per geocaching.com event guidelines, the actual event is the meet-up from 11-11:30 at the posted coordinates, which is the parking lot for the McMillin Trailhead. Fun fact: the Foothills Trail is the last leg in an almost flat 50-mile route from downtown Seattle to South Prairie along mostly bike trails (Duwamish/Interurban/Stuck/Foothills). Thank the geographic anomaly of the Green and White Rivers meeting in Auburn. This event is outdoors, but I will only cancel this event if the weather is terrible: heavy rain, lightning/thunder, snow or ice. Bring a waterproof layer if it might rain, and enough layers/gloves/etc to ward off any cold.
Speaking of guidelines, bring a mask and be prepared to follow the local Covid-19 guidelines, both during the event and during the bike ride. Do not attend if you are sick.
Information for the ride: the Foothills Trail is paved, but the Carbon Riverfront Trail is not. You can skip the Carbon Riverfront Trail and just continue on the Foothills Trail back to the start if you want to avoid dirt and gravel. There are sections of the route that are on city streets, but most of the route is on separated trails. The route is here.
Please show up well before 11:30am so we can leave on time. Check your brakes and air beforehand if you will be biking. Participants in the optional bicycle ride hold harmless the cache owner/event organizer and assume all risks and responsibilities involved in riding a bicycle on trails and streets. Wear a helmet, dress in layers, and bring a spare tube.
